Ken...that's a good point (motor oil vs. gear lube); I'm so used to
everything involving the engine being motor oil (wet clutches) I hadn't
thought about gear lube as a possibility. It does seem more like oil spots
but now I'll have to go check more closely. Thanks!

First thing to do it figure out if its gear lube or motor oil, the gearlube
should have a distinctive smell. If its gear lube, then it is most likelythe
push rod seals. Pretty easy to fix once you have the gear box out. If itsuse 2.5
motor oil it could be one of several things, overfilling the crankcase (I
quarts), rear main seal, breather hoses or in a worse case a porouscasting
in the bell housing.
