First thing to do it figure out if its gear lube or motor oil, the gear lube should have a distinctive smell. If its gear lube, then it is most likely the push rod seals. Pretty easy to fix once you have the gear box out. If its motor oil it could be one of several things, overfilling the crankcase (I use 2.5 quarts), rear main seal, breather hoses or in a worse case a porous casting in the bell housing.
