Yes, try the adjustment. Also try taking all but the last essential bit of freeplay out of the cable. This sometimes helps. The hot grab almost always means spline-wear issues. Why the symptoms only occur when hot, I don't know. Why the cleaning seems to help so much (albeit temporarily) I also do not know. Mine is starting to do this after less than 8,000 miles on a new clutch. I always try to find neutral before coming to a stop to limit further wear, and also because it drags just enough (even with everything adjusted perfectly) that I can't get neutral once the bike's stopped. This time I think the flywheel splines are the culprit, so when I do pull it apart I'm gonna try a RAM clutch. I'm sick of Guzzi clutches. They do not stand up to the use I give them. GF |
Well, if YOU'RE going to try a RAM clutch, maybe I'll try one too. I
didn't know that the Guzzi-issue (GI) clutches had a fast-wear problem.
I've already adjusted both the handlebar and lower cable (on the tranny)
adjustment for optimum throw - almost all the freeplay is gone. Had to
do that to get the clutch to release at all when hot.
Having lived with BritBikes for many years, I am almost anal about
putting the bike in neutral at a stop to avoid wear on whatever passes
for a throwout bearing on the bike I happen to be riding; old Britbikes
don't really have one, unless you do like I do and install heavy-duty
pressure plates with true throwout bearings in them, and even then I
always use neutral.
Trouble is, crawling along in a line of traffic, you can't be snicking
it in and out of neutral all the time. I don't do much
traffic-crawling, but when I must, it's very inconvenient to have the
engine cutting off, having to find neutral, restart, lurch ahead a few
feet, pull clutch in, engine cuts off, etc.....
