Joe and Greg, Scuse me for butting in but the two distributor springs are
different, one is 8 coils and the other 9 coils and I understand that
installing them backwards leads to problems. Bob

Hi Joe,
I pulled the cap and investigated the throttle advance. The springs
definitely return the rotor to the non-advanced position. BUT, there is
a little bit a free play before the springs begin to provide any
resistance. Perhaps the hooks on the end of the springs are not tight
enough around the posts? Any other thoughts?

Hi Greg, Certainly the flywheel is much heavier on your Ambo, but you might want to check to see that the cent. advance mechanism is lubed up & free to move. If your throttles are closing fine a hanging advance will cause an engine to idle fast. Just pull the cap and give a twist to the rotor to see if it springs back ok. Hope this helps, J.
