Hey, I know that one.
It can happen if the distributor cam is screwed up or worn such that one
of the lobes is "smaller" than the other. The worn lobe will open the
points later than the other one does for a given points gap, thus
retarding the timing for the cylinder fired by the worn lobe.
I still think Steve has a bad tank of gas. You watch, he'll change it
out and it'll go back to running right.....
