I have not seen a fill plug with a hole in a trans or rearend. It may be
something someone did. Allot of guys use to vent the rearends, so it may be
for that since the trans should have a vent in the detent plug and would not
need 2 vents

 Patrick,
I'm not referring to the small plug, as you described, but the larger
filler plugs. I have three. One came off the crankcase, one from the
tranny, the other from the rear drive. One has a hole, like the smaller
shift drum plug. Did that come from the tranny or rear drive? I can't
imagine it on the motor.
Thanks
Ray

Likely that is the plug on the left side of the transmission that holds
the
spring and detent for the shifter drum. That plug has a hole to act as
a
transmission breather. Mine always puked so I modified the right side
plug
to add a real breather. Stopped the oil drip.
