Well I do like to keep up a brisk pace - those who ride with me don't
complain about me going too slow. But then I don't ride nearly as fast
as when I was invincible (20 yrs. ago or so). Somewhere between Auntie
and Agostini I'd say. :-) I too would like better brakes without
resorting to discs though!

Actually, some people have been much less then
satisfied with the linings from MI. I'm not being down
on Dave and crew - I buy from them myself, and have
been very happy - but if you want to get the most out
of seek brakes, Mi may not be the best choice. OTOH,
what works well on one loop may not on another. I'm am
less then thrilled with the linings I ended up
purchasing, but others love 'em. Charlie says his
stock shoes do a good job (how slow DO you ride,
Charlie?).

If I were doing it over again, I would probably mail
my shoes and backing plate to Vintage Brakes to have
them done: that seems to be the safest bet, though a
tad costly. This deal in Baltimore is REALLY cheep,
but I wouldn't do it until I hear whether the braking
is good or not.

In my searching for new brakes, I found that Harpers
sells Ferodo shoes for loops, MI recommends Forodo
Greens (but at the time were only selling the
linings), and MG Classics has their own special
lining, all for arouond the same price. MG Cycle was
the low bidder, have some Italian brand for $48.50.
Unfortunately, neither Harpers nor MG Cycle could tell
me how their shoes actually perform. They stock them
but haven't tried them.
