Hi Brett,
I believe we met at the Loop get-together during VMD? Nice to have met
you, I'm glad you joined the list! Welcome!
My '72 Ambo ("Freebie") is as you described - four speed trans, "waffle"
engine case and the Eldo style rear drive. Gotta' love the way Guzzi
built these things out of whatever was on hand at the time!
If you have an extra swingarm pivot, two pins inserted into the holes
and two of the jam nuts locked together on it will make an inexpensive
tool. Best bet though is the tool Stephen Brenton makes - available from
him or MG Cycle. Cheers,
Charlie

A month or so ago my cleaning lady's husband GAVE me a complete rustbucket Guzzi...left valve cover off (apparently in the rain at times) for over 10 years....I love it. Was a bit odd when I removed motor drain plug and watched what looked like a few quarts of water come out before the liquid turned black....OK there was some oil in there also!! Anyway, got a couple of questions for the group...excuse my lack of MG knowledge at this point..but, the bike was manufactured 10/71, has a four speed transmission and the "waffle" type engine block. Is this an Ambassador or an Eldorado? What is the difference between the two? Also, I have the whole bike stripped down to front wheel still on the frame/swingarm with bottom end and tranny still on. Am still waiting for shop manual....Have swingarm to the point of exposing the two "axles" with the two small holes exposed. How do these come out? Special tool required? Thanks to all....Brett in Indiana |
