Ray,
I have used the por-15 kit. Very effective. Will remove previous
"Kreem" or other coats. Seals well, even fills pinhole leaks.
Relatively easy but takes several days to do properly.
You should do more than coat the chrome with oil. You need to
protect the chrome and paint from both cleaner and etcher. The cleaner
is essentially a paint stripper! I was careful and still ended with a
"stream" of blistered paint where a small amount escaped and ran down
the side of the tank.
I would call a local body shop and ask what they recommend for
masking against solvents. Vaseline sound like a good idea, but it is
worth investing the time to be sure the chrome is protected.
Also, since you seem to be at a university, go to the chem. dept.
and get rubber stoppers to fit into the petcock holes.
Clifton

Hey,
Thanks for all the responses. I decided, on the advice of several

listmembers, and after some more research, to try the POR Heavy
Duty M/C
Tank Kit. This allows me to remove the current bad sealer, clean
the
rust, and reseal. POR recommended that I coat the chrome with oil
to
protect it.
I will let you know the results.
I love it that there are so many opinions and solutions offered
for
almost every question asked. This is an excellent forum.
