That would be Dale Petersen (Peterson?) that Ian's thinking of. Todd Liskow the WNY Rep. may have contact info. for him or know someone who does. Dale used a Geo Metro alternator with the mounting tabs sawed off. The front of it bolted to an aluminum plate via longer through bolts. The back was supported with an "S" shaped bracket bolted to another bracket mounted to the original gen. mount bolts. The front aluminum plate bolted in behind the gen. drive belt using the front timing cover bolts. I remember him using the stock Metro pulley (could be wrong there) - no cover mods were necessary. Dale told someone (can't remember who - maybe I imagined it) that he'll be pulling his bike apart this winter for some freshening up and that he would make a pattern of the front mounting plate.

For those of you who haven't seen this bike, it's really quite amazing! Not only does it have the alternator conversion, but also a Convert driveline and Lemans IV front forks! Not to mention all the other neat little touches found everywhere on it. Not much original Loop left except the frame, fuel tank, sidecovers and toolboxes (one of which is now the oil tank). What I like about the alt is that it has an internal regulator. Can do away

Has anyone on this list actually fitted an alternator to a loop?

I'm strongly thinking of doing that to get around all the constant
sheering off of gen-mount bolts and studs and cracking brackets and
all. Right now, I've got two different Eldos with cracked off bolts
(one has one broken; the other has both broken).

On both of these, I did everything I know to do (bedding the mount and
front of the generator in epoxy, welding on an extra strap securing the
whole mess to the distributor, using studs, and so on). The one on my
main ride broke a stud and then tore off the strap to the distr. after
about 10,000 miles. The one on the Helldorado did it in 720 miles.

I figure a lighter alternator would stress these bolts less.

What alt. did you use? Need to change pulleys? Will it run with the
stock belt cover?
