Ron, mine are the same was, no holes but those little depssions on the sides. I spoke with Larry Klein at GT MOtors when I reassambled mine and he said as Chalie said, they had both kinds. those depressions should allow a squirt of oil to spray the cylinder walls and pistons.

If it ran before, it'll run again so use the ones that were in it, because again like Charlie said, if you change things there may be balance issues.
