Hi,
I just picked up this thread. My wife has a Jackal in which the carrier
bearing/U-joint went south at 6 or 7000 miles (weird). Anyway when it
was fixed, I had a chance to look at the new one- the outer diameter
that fits in the carrier bearing is slightly larger, but I don't recall
that it's any longer (I could be wrong, and often am). Should be a
simple matter to turn it down to size? Sorry, but I don't remember how
big the outer diameter around the yokes are with respect to earlier
u-joints. I do have brandy-new ujoint for my G5 sitting on a shelf, if
anyone wants the measurements off that.

Cheers,
Jason

I have never had a close look at the newer type Ujoint but things to
consider for retrofitting would be:

- swing arm housing size
- front and rear connections to shafts with consideration to diameter of
section that fits into carrier bearing
- where the nipple would be located for easy greasing

All this considered it seems like it would be a formidable task to
retorfit
one and likely a good idea as to why people just pay the $250 for a new
one.
