Ian,
Good question! I would think that the swingarm may be different for the
later joint since it is larger. I think someone mentioned a difference in
the mounting flange to axle dimension for the old vs. newer rear drive
boxes. I think I will measure some of this stuff and see if there is a good
workable combo.The bigger joint may last longer. Are the newer ones still
cheaper? Last time I got one the loop joint was way more money.

Better to have a grease nipple so you can squeeze new grease in every 5k miles. I wonder if the new ones can be retrofitted to fit in the older bikes?
