I bought a mid-line digital Radio Shack VOM a few years back. Kinda
wish I got the model that came with a temperature probe. Also got a
cheap ($17-$20) digital unit from HarborFreight&Salvage to take on
trips; if I lost it, no big deal. You need digital to test modern
electronics - the kind you find in modern cars/bikes/boats/planes, etc

But in my historic section of the garage is a Simpson 260a analog that I
like to use every once in awhile. And I've got a 1935-1945 German volt
meter that uses separate plug-in coils. One day I'm going to have to
get the instructions translated.

Flukes are sort of pricey, but well worth it in my estimation. I use a
model 77 for home and garage use. I haven't bought one for a while, but a
77 used to cost around a $100.

Probably
with something a little better. Anyone have a favorite in the medium
price
range?
