I can't explain the physics behind it, but when I first got my loopframe racebike on the track it had K&N filters mounted directly on the carbs. It ran fine but in trying different things I removed the filters & installed velocity stacks......wow what a difference! No real change in bottom or mid range but a big improvement in top end.
