I just had the same thing happen last week when I was putting my front end
together. I was lucky to have just bought a junk t3 front end for 20 bucks
at a British bike rally, of all places, so I swapped mine out with those.
Now I have found out the fork springs are shot, so apart it comes again.

Ugh, that thing was a problem for me on my Eldo/SP. The ones I had did
not have the nub and that was a bad thing. The bolt that secures the
bottom of the damper must be properly torqued with a fresh crush washer
or bloooop, out comes your fork oil. The nub is on the outside of this
part, two teeth are on the inside. Together they hold the damper rod
still so you can torque it. See diagram:

I replaced the nubless wonders with a pair from the SP donor bike and
now all ist gut.
