Jesse, OK, are you saying that you get into this from the glass side, not the underneath side? B. ----- Original Message ----- From: Jesse Open <Beaver-@comcast.net> To: <Loopfram-@topica.com> Sent: Monday, September 30, 2002 8:19 PM Subject: RE: DAMNED VEGLIA SPEEDO
Yes ,but to do it right you will need a fixture to avoid spoiling the bezel ring. I turn an aluminum form and fit it carefuly to the face. Then carefully lift the crimp and open the speedo. Usually a little ,very VERY little WD-40 on the pin bearings allow it to dry then a DROP of 0W Mobil One will do the trick . Cleaning the clutch with a gentle prodigious use of canned compressed air should blow out the dust that may cause drag there . Since your speedo seems to read low I would suspect the pin is dry. Dusty clutches tend to read high.
Bob's speedometer in Farmington Mich can make it run like new if you don't want to risk damage. Robert Hawkes wrote:
Jesse, Can anyone (me included) open up a speedo? I thought they were sealed so no one could mess with the odometer. Can you provide me with more info on this? Usually it is the cable. If you can positively rule out the cable
(even
a new cable can have a bind that causes surging). Otherwise the speedo can will need to be opened . The surging can be caused by
underdamping
usually from the speedo bearings being too dry. The other cause is debris in the magnetic drive. The debris will drag the magnetic slip clutch and cause needle fluctuation. Any make magnetic drive speedo
can
have problems like these. Robert Hawkes wrote:
My Veglia speedo wavers back and forth. Even when I am up around 70
she
reads from 40 to 60 back and forth like a geiger counter! Speedo
cable
is lubed. Do I need a new speedo cable? Do I need a new speedo? Do I need to not worry about this and see it as entertainment? Bob, 1969 Ambo.
