Usually it is the cable. If you can positively rule out the cable (even
a new cable can have a bind that causes surging). Otherwise the speedo
can will need to be opened . The surging can be caused by underdamping
usually from the speedo bearings being too dry. The other cause is
debris in the magnetic drive. The debris will drag the magnetic slip
clutch and cause needle fluctuation. Any make magnetic drive speedo can
have problems like these.

My Veglia speedo wavers back and forth. Even when I am up around 70 she reads from 40 to 60 back and forth like a geiger counter! Speedo cable is lubed. Do I need a new speedo cable? Do I need a new speedo? Do I need to not worry about this and see it as entertainment? Bob, 1969 Ambo. |
