adjustment is done warm, but don't let motor get too hot with no airflow over pots. can be done with no guages: disconnect 1 HT* lead & start engine.screw in throttle stop till it idles slowly. play with mixture screw till it is at sweetest point. reconnect HT lead. repeat with other side. connect both HT leads & motor will idle too fast. screw out both throttle screws 1/4 turn at a time till idle is 850/100 rpm. next stage is more hit & miss. equalise free play in throttle cables by eye (0.5>1.0mm). remove air cleaner(s) open twist grip & make sure both slides commence rise together. impossible to see both at once so you can use a mirror or if you have huge hands you can stick a finger into back of each carb & do it by feel. both adjustments are far easier with guages though, and more accurate. i use type that has stainless rods floating in clear tubes. cookie *don't do this on later bikes with electronic ignition. HT leads must be grounded at all times on these bikes. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Keith Ruff" <klru-@fcc.net> To: <Loopfram-@topica.com> Sent: Thursday, September 19, 2002 1:19 PM Subject: Setting Carbs
