Oil leak between the motor and the trans can be the cam plug.....Mark at
M.G. classics always JB weld these up whenever the motor and tranny are
separated. The leak at the rear of the tranny is the rear seal, you can try
seal swelling additive but it didn't work for me, Mark did a complete
reseal, motor, tranny and cam plug glue job......no more leaks.
As for the grinding only experienced a deep growl once from the front of
motor.......timing chain......but you don't have one of those on the
Ambo.....unless you have a replacement 74+ motor !

Counted 2 total Guzzi's in the entire several hundred-1000+ bikes we saw - my Ambo and Cam's Eldo. Did get a few people asking about the bikes, and a few Harley guys pulling up to us asking what years they were as we were cruising. One guy in a pickup was ooing and ahhing at them, saying he hadn't seen a Guzzi since his dad owned one. The Ambo is running real well, but I think the time she spent sitting is rearing it's ugly head, getting more oil leaks, this time I noticed oil coming from just under the gen belt cover. I cracked off the cover and low and behold, there was oil sitting under the pulley wheel. I decided to give into the seal swell stuff and threw it in the crankcase before departing for home today - seems to actually have worked as I see no oil residue at all now, but still have the oil leak between the cases which I am pretty sure is coming from those flange bolts that the Guzzi dealer never coated before re-installing them when he replaced the main seal. The other leak I have a real question on and need advice is the trans. I figured out it is definitely coming out of that seal (don't know what it's called) that moves in and out when you pull the clutch, on the back case of the trans. It is wet/grimy, and after a ride, the gear oil leaks down and drips off the rear case. Is there some sort of gear oil seal sweller to fix this or does it flat out need to be changed? How hard/how much to fix? Last question, I'm still getting a metallic grinding type of noise, sort of clatter like too up front, definitely in the gen/gen belt area it seems. I took a look at the new belt and it is fine, can't figure out what the noise is but it scares me, I'm waiting for the big boom as I'm riding. I noticed when manually turning the motor, the pulley seems to make a grinding noise, don't know why. Any clue what would be causing this noise? As stated earlier, the bike is running great, just this noise has me concerned, perhaps it is normal (i.e. the timing gears) and the old gaskets giving way here and there. Appreciate the help/advice.
