Had this problem with my Ambo also. Can't say exactly what fixed it,
but I did clean all wires and installed a new Group 55 battery which
didn't seem to help. I wound up replacing the starter/solenoid with a
rebuild and it was much better initially, but then came back. I think
the main problem was my timing was off a bit. Once the timing was set,
the problem went away. I guess you can start with the east and cheapest
stuff 1st, make sure she is all tuned up (plugs, wires, points, etc..)
then set the timing, also clean the wires/contacts. This should help
the bike regardless, if you still have a hesitation, go after the
starter. Could be "weak springs" as I have been told this was common
with Marelli starters. Also, I have heard that if the engine stops at a
certain point in these old loops (i.e., on the compression stroke), it
takes alot of oomph to turn them over, so timing is critical here also.
Take it one step at a time.

Good Luck.

The starter on my 71 Ambo usually starts very slowly when I first hit
the
starter button. It sounds like the battery is weak. The battery is
brand
new. Did the same thing with the old battery. It always starts. Just
cranks
slow or hesitates then turns slow then starts. Any ideas on what the
problem
is? Have never heard anyone else's start since I don't know of any
other
loopframe owners around me. Would feel more comfortable if it just
cranked
without the hesitation or slow turning every time. Any ideas.
