The two main tests are initial and full advance. You can check the
initial at idle and the full should have the engine revving about the
same as 55 to 60 on the road . Of course you SHOULD use a tach but this
will get you in the park. Loopers arre known for weak advance springs
and the full advance should NOT come in too early. The 850s are not as
prone to pinging as the 750s but pinging is a pretty good indication the
timing and/or advance springs need attention .

Getting ready to check/adjust the timing on Patience for the 1st time, I

have never done this before and need help. I plan on borrowing a light
from a friend, and I have seen how to adjust the timing by lossening the

bolt and moving the distibutor etc... Question I have is the book calls

out for checks at multiple RPM's, how do I know what RPM's I am at
without an RPM guage on the bike? Is that part of the timing light kit?

Any other tips for timing loops?

Thanx much!
