Ken,
You've gotta' get the hole for the throwout bearing enlarged to 22mm,
and it has to be smooth. The original ones were 20mm and were a ball
bearing, instead of the later roller style bearing. Personally, I would
call Mark at Moto Guzzi Classics and see what he has around as far as
parts go, as the Guzzi prices for the new stuff are outlandish (ask me
how I know). Joe Eish had some four speed covers that were re-machined
and could be swapped for your original and some cash. If not, any good
machinist should be able to open the hole up to 22mm for you.

I pulled the gear box out of my Ambassador to replace the seals & while in there found the throw out bearing is hosed. My understanding is that it is NLA. What are you guys with four speeds using for a replacement? I'v heard of upgrading to the needle bearing that came in the five speeds, anyone does this & what is involved? I'm really missing the Ambo & I want to get it back on the road soon. TIA Ken Asheville, NC |
