Well, I thought I did (grin). I used the same shims top and bottom and
the disk is centered on the caliper split. The disk shows signs of
contact dead center on both sides so I remain optimistic.

Yeah, that sounds correct. Gotta' wonder if you had some unusual wear on
the disk.

Fortunately, the PO had included two new sets of EBC FA-18 pads with the

bike.

How do you like those? I am running a single disk with the stock 14MM
pump and it is, um, firm. Pads with more initial bite would be welcome.

They work pretty good, great stopping power and very progressive. I
think I have a 12mm master cylinder, which gives a bit more "feel" to
the brakes.

but it sounds like the either the transmission input hub or the
flywheel is worn,

All brand new from Manfred Hecht's Brooklyn Batcave. I think the plates

are new and grabby. Also, I am accustomed to my nicely broken in Jackal

dry clutch. I will adjust the cable and wait and see.

That's odd. My Ambo's new clutch was silky smotth and progressive from
day one. By any chance did you use any moly paste on the splines?
