Dave,
Did you replace the pads on your brakes? If not, did the previous owner
have the calipers shimmed properly? For that matter, do you have the
calipers shimmed properly? The point is that you should be getting near
100% contact from day one. I just went through this with the pads on the
front of my G-5. The previous owner had the shims goofed up, which wore
the pads in an odd fashion. I corrected the shimming on the right front
caliper only to find that it was only getting about 25% contact. I
pulled the pads and they were so beveled that it would have taken a
couple thousand miles (or more) to get them to wear into the new setup.
Fortunately, the PO had included two new sets of EBC FA-18 pads with the
bike. A quick change to new pads and a bit of glaze breaking with some
100 grit sandpaper yielded an immediate increase in contact area to
100%, and very solid lever feel.
The clutch is lightswitch-like and caused me to
stall twice but the neutral light is spot on and the bike came back to life at a touch of the button. |
Glad to hear that your starter is working, but it sounds like the either
the transmission input hub or the flywheel is worn, hence the toggle
switch response from the clutch.
