Subject: Chrome flaking on cylinder....first Guzzi...now what?

I have been posting about my "new" eldo, and how it won't start. After
pulling the head, I noticed that the previous owner must have replaced the
piston, but the cylinder is very worn, and rings were broken, base gasket
torn, hence my compression problem I assume. (70psi, with throttle wide
open)
What are my options here? Since I am doing this, I will do both sides at
once, but being new I have no clue as to where to begin. I did speak with
one of the Guzzi suppliers today who mentioned purchasing cylinders that had
been re-chromed. He had a set with pistons. What about Nikasil (sp?)? What
about boring and lining?
Thanks for your opinion.
David
