Hey Bruce,
I pulled the carrier on my G5 with a plain ole puller. Probably the
same as what you got. Just be careful you dont dent the aluminum.
Perhaps use a wood spacer glued to the puller to avoid metal/metal
contact if you're worried (and there's enough room).
I haven't put my seal back in yet so I'm interested in that as well. I
was thinking I would just take the whole mess..uh motor... down to the
local dealer and have him whack it in with the correct tool. Can't be
very expensive.

So whilst unbolting all the clutch parts from the flywheel, I noticed some oil at the bottom of the clutch housing, engine-side. Must be that the rear main seal is leaking; I think that I should replace both the seal and rear bearing carrier. Might as well do everything since I'm already in there. Are there any "watch out for" warnings in this job? Reading up on the rear main seal in Guzziology, David R. recommends removing the bearing carrier from the block using Guzzi's fancy puller. I have a fancy harmonic balancer puller from Harbor Freight and Salvage with I think will work as well. Then there is the Guzzi tool to help put the seal back on of which I don't have a substitute. Do I really need one? Bruce '72 Eldo |
