The quick fix is to use a socket the same size as the seal to drive it in
with.

Probably the same as what you got. Just be careful you dont dent the aluminum. Perhaps use a wood spacer glued to the puller to avoid metal/metal contact if you're worried (and there's enough room). I haven't put my seal back in yet so I'm interested in that as well.
