Dave
Restoration is my business or a major part of it. I don't powdercoat
anymore unless a customer insist on it. I use Imron.
Here are some reasons why. powdercoat is usually put on too thick, you
may runinto clearance problems and have to scrape it off, if you don't
plug or tape holes they will be too small, again you have to ream them
out , if anything is internally threaded you will have to tap them out.
all the above means you will uaually be back to bare metal.
If you do tape and plug holes ect. the powdercoat tends to mound up
around the tape or plug, like a volcano with the hole being the crater,
you will have to work the rim down before you tighten a washer down on
it are it may crack and or chip and youve taped or pluged the hole so
again you are back to bare metal.
If you do powercoat and need to remove it aircraft stripper will do
the job.
Good luck with your resto!

Live long and prosper.
Ron
