I get it all the time on the Ambo. It has been identified as everything from
a 30's era Indian to a 50's HD. I love the constipated look they get when I
tell 'em it is a 70's Moto Guzzi.
But I don't have a lot of confidence in people's ability to judge bikes. My
99 honda VTR has all the decals removed ( like the plain black) except the
Honda decals on the tank that are clear coated. My tank bag has magnetic
flaps that cover the tank decals. One night in front of a well known tavern
in Seattle, I fired it up and as it rumbled through the cans, a dude
proclaimed "No way man, I know bikes. That's a Buell!" I turned and smiled
"who said that?" no one fessed and I grinned and lifted the flap.

At one point during the ride, I came to a stop and at the corner were 5 RUBs (plus passengers, RUBettes?) with their H-Ds, all gathered around one that had puked, it was quite a crowd. That one machine was puffing some smoke and I could hear: errrr, errrr, errrr - I knew I wouldn't be much help to them, so I just waved and as I rounded the corner I opened the throttle all the way - to the most wonderful induction sucking sound there is joined by some mellow exhaust notes - I can only imagine them wondering: what the heck kind of a bike was that? Probably thought it was some old Harley. ...did give me a chuckle! If I had helped them, I probably would have inadvertently set one of them on fire or at least ruined an electronic ignition.
