Hi Tom and all,
Had my last ride of the season last weekend, this past weekend and
this coming weekend. I'm really enjoying this extended fall we're havingin
the Mid-Atlantic area!Bedford,
Last weekend I rode just over 220 miles on backroads and byways to
PA (home of Cannondale bikes and motorcycles) to have a look around andsee
if the old Bedford Springs Hotel is still standing. It was, so satisfied Iof
headed south towards Cumberland, MD on US220. About midway there a grouse
comes running across the road and I clobber him good with the front left
the bike. I guess the fork took most of the impact and it set up a wobblehad
that lasted about 100 yards. After the wobble stopped I pulled over and
a look at the bike. There were feathers stuck to the wheel, forks, headpipes
and crashbars. There was blood splattered on the crashbar, so I don'tthink
he came out too well. If I had been on a bike with more (plastic)bodywork,
it could have gotten expensive. Sometimes the old Ambo just feelsup
indestructible! I continued south to Scenic Route 40 east and on to home.
Yesterday started well enough. Warmer than expected when I got up, but
seemed to cool down as the day wore on. Probably the headwind I was riding
into most of the day didn't help. Still, had fun even if I did get rather
chilled. Only managed to ride 180 miles though. I'm thinking about wiring
the electric vest's connector before this coming Sunday to extend theseason
just a little more. Cheers,
Charlie

Saturday we had some decent weather so I decided that
it was time to take my Eldo for what might be a last
ride for the season. At one point during the ride, I
came to a stop and at the corner were 5 RUBs (plus
passengers, RUBettes?) with their H-Ds, all gathered
around one that had puked, it was quite a crowd. That
one machine was puffing some smoke and I could hear:
errrr, errrr, errrr - I knew I wouldn't be much help
to them, so I just waved and as I rounded the corner I
opened the throttle all the way - to the most
wonderful induction sucking sound there is joined by
some mellow exhaust notes - I can only imagine them
wondering: what the heck kind of a bike was that?
Probably thought it was some old Harley. ...did give
me a chuckle!
If I had helped them, I probably would have
inadvertently set one of them on fire or at least
ruined an electronic ignition.
Waiting for the snow...and salt,
Tom
