I also would not clear it unless you had access to professional
equitment and specialized coatings. I don't have any experience myself but I
have been told that in the hot rod world they use a clear powder coat that
doesn't yellow and is pretty heat resistant on polished valve covers and
manifolds. The piece has to be sturdy enough to withstand an hour or so of
400 degree baking to cure the powder though

I prolly wouldn't. the clear tends to yellow and crack on an engine
part.
