I have a 73' police model with all the original linkages, shifter,
brake,
etc. I am currently rebuilding a 71' Ambo. I have been thinking of
converting the Ambo over to floorboards. I had thought about casting
new levers but I wasn't sure how to go about it. I didn't think the
levers were aluminum. I don't know if cast aluminum would stand up to
torque
that will be applied especially at the spline locations. The other
concern
that I had was putting the spline pattern it the levers. I had thought
of driving in the spline pattern by pressing the lever spline boss over
a=20
hardened mandrel. I think you may have come up with a neat conversion
however, the aluminum levers may require a follow-up heat treating
process=20
to stand up to the torque loads they wil encounter. Aslo, how much
for a set of cast lever blanks?=20

Ok everyone, here is something that might be of interest to some. I have
the
big long floorboards (DB or so I am told they are called) and I was
needing
the shifter to go with these. I got one but it broke on the first shift
as
it had a hairline crack running thru the end where it fits on the shift
shaft. To make a long story short, I have found a place to make me an
exact
copy out of cast aluminum like the original for relatively cheap. The
only
thing you would have to do is sand and polish it up to look nice and
shiny
and also drill and make the splines to fit on the shaft, and then drill
and
tap the hole for the nut to tighten it all down. Turn around time is
great,
I went in Monday and picked them up this morning. They are an exact
copy. If
anyone is interested, then let me know. I might even have them make some
more floorboards too.
