Well here goes. I see there has been many replies on the broken bolts.
I haven't read them all, so if I repeat something, forgive me. I have always
had luck by:
1) filing the broken bolt flush to the surface.
2) center punch, take time and get it centered.
3) drill with a small diameter drill bit.
4) step up the drill bit diameter sizes until you close to the treads.
5) drill completely through the boken bolt making certain you don't
get into the other support material.
6) fill the hole with penetrating oil and let set.
7) blow some high pressure air in to the hole. ( this helps drive the
penetrating oil into the botom side of the threads).
8) use a square, carbide type extractor for your tool.
9) drive in the extractor but not to hard.
10) apply the reverse torque while tapping the top of the extractor
with a hammer (works like an impact wrench).

What ever you do, do not break this type of extractor. These extractors
are robust and won't break unless they are abused. Removing a broken
extractor will need to be done with an EDM process.

If this still doesn't work, give up on the removal and go to the Heli-Coil
method of restoring the treads.

One thing I did with mine after they broke and I spent a whole Saturday
fishing them out was to replace them with a metric stud and metric nylon
lock nuts. I have not had any problems since then.

Tim and Dave Otis are right about getting those damn bolts out. Also, if
you can preserve the threads and you still have some bolt shreads in the
hole use a dental pick to get the remaining shreads of metal out. Bob

Hey Tim,

I had to do this many moons ago when my (then) idiot brother-in-law, who
knew everything, figured that 100 foot/pounds of torque was good for
those
 bolts!
What I do is drill the bolts out further, until there isn't much left but
the threads. I've always been able to peel them out after that. You do
have
to be very careful, so as not to ruin the threads
