<jumping in> I didn't find a group 55. I did find a lawn tractor battery
that cranks at 230 cca. 25 bucks and has worked great so far. I cranked the
snot out of it when I was setting the timing, trying to get the bike started
and testing the resistance of my arm by holting the distributor cap.

GOt it at Wal Mart.

It should be noted that I am not using the old style round end battery
cables. I am using the bolt on flat terminal type. That may make a
difference.

As a suggestion, maybe you can try a lawn tractor shop.

I have become less and less imnpressed with the quality of folk employed by
sears.

Keith,
Pulled this e-mail from my files. Where did you find your Group 55
battery?
If I go into a Sears, or where ever and ask for a "group 55" are they going
to know what I'm asking for? Or do I just ask for a battery that has 500
cold cranking amps? Thanks, Bob Hawkes 69 Ambo.

PO put a 28 Amper in mine, but she was slow cranking. Per Mark at MG
Classics and Cycle Garden, they use Group 55's, which is why I went with
one. Was going to mail order one from Mark, but found out they are
difficult top ship due to the battery acid, so decided to look local for
a Group 55 and found one. Think it's 500 cca's, Guzzi shop recommended
this size to me, so I just had to go through the hoops of making it fit.
Fits tight and is tied down well, just took some effort to get it to
fit.

 Keith,
sorry you went thru all that for a bigger battery. The lawn tractor
battery
fits well.
I looked thru the whitney cat yesterday and the listing for Guz big
twins
including loop years is a 300 cca item (cold crank amps).
The largest lawn tractor battery has this rating. I think other guys
are
