I was too cheap to replace the missing battery tie down frame. I found at
the local autoparts store a doodad that works better than a modified frame.
it's like a rubber dog bone affair with holes for j-hooks. And I bought a
set of J-hooks. It fit easily over the ends of the battery (rather than fore
and aft)and the hooks grabbed the bottom of the battry tray with no
modifications. I did have to cut an inch or so (eyeballed) off the hooks to
fit under the top edge of the side covers so getting 8" hooks rather than
the 10" hooks I bought might be better.
total cost was less than 10 bones. and I can shake the whole bike by
grabbing the battery and rattling it around without any give.

May not apply to a larger battery but it may get some creative thought
going.

Greetings All,

Just went through the ordeal of putting a Series 55 battery in my Ambo,
what a pain in the ***!! Battery is tall and wide, had to cut the
plastic "holders" on the battery to make it fit, then hammer down the
tabs on the battery tray. To add to the dilemma, the original metal
holddown that fits around the entire battery had to be modified as it
was too small to fit around this series 55. Did some engineering and
added some brackets to make it larger. This battery is also very tall,
so I had to remove and bend the tie down bolt to get some additional
threading. Also had to buy, modify, and install rubber boots for the
terminal posts. This was a definite necessity since the posts sit so
high that when the side covers are on, they would actually touch - could
be scary! All is done and I now have power again, will crank her up
today. Did any others have this problem when installing a bigger
battery??
