Are you sure that the intermediate plate is not dished or warped? It doesn't
take much to cause the problems you describe.

The clutch was dragging really bad. No adjustment seemed to help, tried @ the back of the trans, side and up top. Nothing. He also said that it seemed to slip and drag. It would walk away at a light, but just totally slip when he got on the throttle. I should tell you that this has brand new sureflex friction plates, new throw out bearing. The intermediate plate is good, same for the other, new pushrod seals, and new springs. Nothing seemed abnormal when taking it apart except..... the springs The new one's measured at 1.050". In Guzziology Dave states the he will run them as short as 1.080". He also states that the Haynes manual will run them as low as 1.060". I measured some old ones out of my Ambo. they measured out at 1.090". The way I see it is this, if the spring isn't long enough to start it can't push the plates all the way apart, therefore you end up with a dragging clutch. Make sense? But if this is the case, what runs springs as short as 1.060". I think small twins have a spring plate, right? Oh yeah, the brand new throw out bearing was trashed also.
