It is weird how they tend to blue one side first. It could be any number of
things since the left and right cylinders are so different. On the
loopframes the main deal is that the distributor uses one set of points
with two lobes on the timing shaft. What that really boils down to is that
as the lobe wears the timing relationship between the two cylinders will
change. Since the engine is timed by the left cylinder, it would be
possible for the right to be off one way or the other enough to cause
pinging or a blue pipe.
Maybe I'll break out the degree wheel here and check the right cylinder on
mine. Could be interesting!
