Chris and Jay,
Thanks for giving me those tank filler dimensions. Now I am a little
stumped, as you will see...
I got my '74 disk-brake Eldo last fall. It had a tach and speedo,
civilian crashbars and sidestand, but had police handlebars and a
screw-on gas cap. I assumed that the gas tank was a police item until
the previous owner sent me some parts he had, which included a civilian
gas cap. I assumed that this would fit, and went ahead and had it
re-chromed along with everything else. However, when I got it back, it
seemed like it was too small, which made me think that the tank was a
police item, as I had heard that they had larger openings.
The outside diameter of the filler opening on my tank is also about 2
3/8 inches, but the civilian cap I have is just a little too small. Its
diameter is just a hair smaller than the screw-on cap I have. So now I
need to find out if I have a civilian tank which is just a hair too
large. Chris, is this the same problem that you have, with your civilian
cap not fitting right?
This could be resolved if someone could tell me the exact outside
diameter of the filler on the police tank. Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Brian Murphy

My '74 Eldo is 2 3/8 also, but has the civillian type cap. I currently have a Fiat cap (modified slightly) on it cos the original doesn't fit right. Chris in NC '74 Eldo civ.
