I seem to recall that the later 4 speed trannies were modified to use the
"newer" updated needle bearings. I'm not totally sure that this came out of
the factory though. Possibly the dealers did it?
When I restored my original 70 Ambo (#16865) it had the small type ball
thrust bearing.
Also...if you are not the original owner is it possible that the previous
owner had the tranny modified. From what I understand it is a fairly easy
process. You just need to enlarge the opening in the tranny.
I will have a look in my files to see if I saved anything on this and will
post what I can find.
Regards...Ian

I talked to Mark. He re-enforced what everyone says about him. Super dude. Mark, I appreciate the time. I grabbed my spare 4 speed tranny. I didn't hold a lot of hope that the bearing would be there as the tranny came separate from the bike. But it |
there. Now I was confused as there was a needle bearing in the spot. I remember ball bearins (and scraps of metal) coming out when I dismantled |
bike. So I called MArk. What I did not know is that there are some 4 speeds that take the larger bearing already. So it;s back to the shop to confirm what exactly is in the bike. I suspect (and Mark does) that it is the small hole. Dave, Whatcha want for the bearing? I probably ought to get the washer that goes with as well. I use the address on the web site I presume? |
