You're going to need a tool of some kind to hold the flange that the pulley
bolts to while you undo the crank nut. If it's on tight putting the bike in
gear & using the brakes ain't gonna do it.

Alternatively the nut will spin off easily with an air impact wrench. You
then have the problem of holding crank while you tighten it up. If you use
the air wrench you won't know how tight it is, unless you have a lot of
experience with that tool.

Putting the bike in gear & using the brakes would probably do for tightening
though.

I have never seen a torque value for that crank nut in a manual, so I do it
to about 110/118 ft.lb. same as similar nut on camshaft.

Also, don't forget to jack up the engine when you remove the front engine
mounting bolt (which may be seized, they often are in this part of the
world).

I have a leaky front cover gasket on my Ambassador. Changing it is
going to be my next maintenance chore. Is it fairly straight forward or
are
there some gotchas? Looks like it is just drain the oil, pull the
generator
belt pully, undo the bolts remove the cover, replace the gasket and
reverse.
Might as well replace the seal while I have it off. What is torque value
on
the pully nut? Any hints or tricks before I dig in would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Rich
