I've had good luck by starting out with some Eagle 1 aluminum mag wheel
cleaner. It contains hydrochloric or hydrofluoric acid (I think). Spray it on,
let it sit for a few minutes, then hose it off. Then I take a green Scotchbrite
pad and scrub some more, using plenty of water. If need be, you can use varying
degrees of wet/dry sandpaper up to 1800 grit, again with plenty of water.
Finish by buffing on a wheel or with a die grinder or Dremel with a polishing
bit and some Mother polishing compound.
It's a lot of work, turns your hands black, makes a big mess but the results are
excellent. After doing it, you will appreciate why shops charge as much as they
do to polish aluminum.
Cheers,
Dave

Hi guys I do not know about any special method from a MGNOC periodical, but a couple of things that we use on cases are- WD40 with a stiff brush then a lighter brush, also I have heard using Coke ( as in Coca cola) works - it has(I may be wrong here) Boric acid in it . For that matter Boric acid may be used - and perhaps you can get that over a pharmacy counter. I hope this helps- I not much for cleaning my bikes- although the ambo may be different once iI get into it . |
