Is rejetting needed after putting on K&N air filters?
I did that and synchronized carbs
seems to run OK but I have only taken a few short test runs as the bike is
not registered.
Plug residue is black
Is it too rich?

After cleaning the carbs the right cylinder started to backfire unless the choke was on. I finally gave in and tore the carb apart. Found a little piece of fluff in the jet. One quick blow and the bike has run perfectly since. Backfiring is a sign of lean mixture. Likely a jet is blocked. Let me know how you make out.
