If the wiring diagram you refer to is (I assume it is 'cos it's the only
one involving relays, I think)
http://www.loopframe.com/images/wiring/Cali_wiringI s'pose I should answer
queries about it as I drew it. Diagram shows wiring as used on my 73 GT850
Cali & fixes some of the anomalies of the factory schematic (may very well
create some new ones though!). Changes are mostly to do with fusing. Guzzi
fused some circuits twice while leaving others unprotected. Master fuse I
would consider optional. Other changes I can remember offhand: Headlight on
indicator is now high beam, relays for lighting added, indicator switch
moved to left bar, er....can't remember much else.

I've tacked answers on to your questions below as best I can.

Subject: '73 Eldo queries

I just got a '73 Eldorado that is pretty complete, and runs sort of OK.
I traded a 1943 BSA project for it and have spent a couple of days getting
it into shape. Changed oil, trans, and bevel fluids, checked points,
plugs, valves, and timing (most were off), and did some rewiring, it was
kind of a rat's nest, also a couple of new tires. I have a parts manual,
a V700 shop manual, and have been poring over the wiring diagram from the
web site, (Nice job, btw Dave, I remember when you were the Ariel sq4 guy
on Brit Iron). Guzzziology and the shop manual are on their way.

I've got a couple of questions.

Are the head lights independent of the ignition switch? A big problem for
me if they are. Would anyone else be interested in a cheap buzzer to
remind you if you've left the headlights on? I will be designing one
asap.

Yes, they are swiched on/off by rocker switch HH on R/H bar. This switch
would normally be part unit on L/H bar but I swapped it so indcators are on
left like a normal bike.

Where is the head light On/Off switch supposed to be? Mine is wired into
the turn signal switch.

See above

Where are the headlight relays supposed to be?

Relays are non standard. I used small automotive units fitted in headlight
shell.

I have turn signals on order--does anyone have the needed brackets? It
looks like something that could be fabricated if necessary.

They could quite easily be copied from Guzzi originals if you could borrow
some.

Is the oil light supposed to go on at idle? (Not sure I want the answer to
this one!)

Look away now.............................

NO....but maybe you're looking at the generator light. Or it's wired wrong.

I rode about 60 mi today. It's happier than it was, but still not too
happy. Would go from a nice idle and then die and get hard to
start. Not a gutsy as I'd expect from 60+ hp either, although it did
chortle along just fine a 75 mph.

Engine should provide more power than either chassis or brakes can handle!

I expect it's time to learn about DelOrtos...

Thanks! Both this list and the main list seem like a bunch of pretty
friendly people. Looking forward to next year--national rally is about 70
mi from here!!!
