I just got a '73 Eldorado that is pretty complete, and runs sort of OK.
I traded a 1943 BSA project for it and have spent a couple of days getting
it into shape. Changed oil, trans, and bevel fluids, checked points,
plugs, valves, and timing (most were off), and did some rewiring, it was
kind of a rat's nest, also a couple of new tires. I have a parts manual,
a V700 shop manual, and have been poring over the wiring diagram from the
web site, (Nice job, btw Dave, I remember when you were the Ariel sq4 guy
on Brit Iron). Guzzziology and the shop manual are on their way.
I've got a couple of questions.
Are the head lights independent of the ignition switch? A big problem for
me if they are. Would anyone else be interested in a cheap buzzer to
remind you if you've left the headlights on? I will be designing one
asap.
Where is the head light On/Off switch supposed to be? Mine is wired into
the turn signal switch.
Where are the headlight relays supposed to be?
I have turn signals on order--does anyone have the needed brackets? It
looks like something that could be fabricated if necessary.
Is the oil light supposed to go on at idle? (Not sure I want the answer to
this one!)
I rode about 60 mi today. It's happier than it was, but still not too
happy. Would go from a nice idle and then die and get hard to
start. Not a gutsy as I'd expect from 60+ hp either, although it did
chortle along just fine a 75 mph.
I expect it's time to learn about DelOrtos...
Thanks! Both this list and the main list seem like a bunch of pretty
friendly people. Looking forward to next year--national rally is about 70
mi from here!!!
