Subject: Original Grips - I have some ;-) need cleaning

I put a set of stock civilian bars back on my Ambo and in doing so had to
take off the grips. They are in great shape except for the usual yellowing of
the stock white ends. Does anyone have any tricks for getting this back to
almost white. WD40 almost did something, Simple Green worked a little, Bleach
didn't do a thing, a Brillo pad worked a little more, but they still are a
wee bit dirty looking. Any ideas? Also what should I use to 'glue' them back
on? I have heard WD40, Hair Spray, contact cement etc, who had any good tips?
Thanks one more time
Rich

Rich,

In regards to glueing the grips back on the bars, I use a trick I learned
from my bicycle-repair friends. There's a 3M product called FastTac or
FastTack which is an upholstery glue. Comes in a giant orange spray can.
Spray some down the inside of the grips and _very quickly_ slide them up
the bars. FastTack is appropriatly named. Be warned, you might not get
them back off without a knife.
Another trick to getting stubborn grips on a bar is to use compressed air
to 'inflate' the grip. Tape or cork or otherwise seal off the opposite end
of the bar, then insert a needle (like to inflate a football, unless you
want to use a real needle) in the grip. Apply air pressure and push the
grip up the bar. If its a tight fit, the air expands the grip just enough
to push up the bar.

Cheers,
Jason
