Thanks for all the help so far. Took the forks apart last night and
noticed that one side had one thick shim and the other side had 2 very
thin shims along with one thick shim. The C-clip had slipped out of the
side with 3 shims and one of the thin shims had be caught down in the
"plunger" and tore into a few pieces when I took things apart. How
important is this extra thin shim? Will it make a difference? When I put
things back together do I need to apply any type of grease to the upper
tube/springs or any other parts or just a little oil on the seals?
Thanks again for all of the advice. I ended up making a removal tool
with my 4" grinder, just happened to have a pipe the perfect size.
Worked like a charm after soaking things with PB Blaster.
