Tom,
As to "when" to do it I wouldn't think either now or later would be a
bad choice.
My input would be to suggest you go with a big-bore kit whenever you do
decide to do it.
In numbers it's only 100cc's but in performance the added torque is VERY
NOTICEABLE and USABLE.
Just my experience.

Guys - need a second opinion. After cleaning and ensuring the flapper valve on the breather box ('74 disk Eldo) is working, I'm still getting oil from the breather box tube. The frame crossbars back of the breather tube are wet, and it always leaves a few drops of oil on the floor where I park it after riding. There is no ball check valve. There is no "blue smoke" in the exhaust, but the right side plug is a bit oily, so I'm assuming its probably just worn rings. Its using some oil - enough for me to determine on the dipstick after 150 miles or so - but I'm not sure exactly how much. If I've got to tear down the top end, I might as well take the opportunity to put in a Nikasil kit. Its not showing any other symptoms, no leaking, no running issues, idles fine, etc. Is it safe to ride it through summer without risking more damage, or should I do the Nikasils now? I'm leaning toward's doing them now, since it really isn't that big a job on a old Guzzi (at least it doesn't appear to be for the unindoctrinated). Thanks, -tom |
