Isn't there a traditional oil seal riding on the rotating cranshaft
surface? Most likely it is the seal and not the gasket. Be prepared to
closely examine the surface that the seal rides on. Has to be something
to seal the crank sticking out the front. I certainly would not do this
level of work without changing every seal and gasket.
