Hi Ted,
I guess the first thing that comes to mind is, "why?" I'm not sure what
you would be protecting the battery from? I suppose if the regulator
went bad, then it could be overcharging and burn up the battery? Even if
that did happen, I would think that I would still want it directly
connected so that I could at least turn on all my electrical gadgetry
and limp into town somewhere. I guess you could use it as a
early-warning detector.
As for what amperage fuse to use, here is my logic (probably flawed):
If you have a 300 watt generator and you want it to charge at no more
than 15 volts, then a 20 amp fuse would be what is needed. Note that I
used the simple formula: watts / volts = amps
